Elizabeth Chapin: Virtual Tour

Wow. What an opening. On low pedestals below 5 paintings, Chapin created food and drink installations. The hundreds of people attending the opening had to bend down to grab a deviled egg or a macaroon, causing the scene to appear as if the guests were bowing to the life size portraits. In the same vein, scotch and champagne glasses were clinked in front of two other paintings, appearing as a cheers to the subjects. This interaction is very much in line with the sentiments in Chapin's works, an honest and amorous homage to these characters- who at once represent something universal and are at the same time very much real people. Five of her sitters attended the opening and it was instantly obvious who they were. Chapin not only expertly captures their physicality but also their personality in her pieces. It was a special evening where everyone came together. The gallery was filled with admiration and love, from and for the artist and guests alike.
