Lee Edwards
I like to think of my work as art of the "at hand." I work spontaneously, rarely starting a project with any well-developed sketch or idea. Rather, I generally begin with a vague notion, a few favored paints and tools, and a collection of found items and scrapheap materials. The materials themselves begin to suggest a direction, mood, or idea that creates an emotional encounter. I favor using weathered remnants of previous projects, especially failed ones, to form the piece through an experience of self-discovery and redemption. In result, my work conveys ideas of history and age from which the viewer can interpret meaning.
