"Karen began painting seven years ago despite having always wanted to paint. Born in Chicago and raised in Texas, she graduated from Midwestern State University with a degree in nursing. Her career as a registered nurse did not afford the time for learning to paint but it did provide many images and feelings that are an indelible part of her work. She enjoys the freedom and looseness of watercolor but has recently begun experimentation with casein and enjoys the organic nature and beautiful patina of that medium. Her choice of subject matter is only that it be alive. Hopefully, it will be reflective of her surroundings. The emphasis is on color, whether bland or vibrant and this brings an abstract quality to her work."
